Brand WPT will change ownership not for the first time. In 2009, PartyPoker bought the right to use the brand for 12 300 000$. Six years later, WPT again got a new owner: OurGame International, who was actively involved in promoting the series in Asian countries, acquired it for 35 000 000$.
Now Black Ridge Acquisition Corp (BRAC) has shown its interest in acquiring the company. This company often buys promising projects for the purpose of further earnings on resale. The deal involves businessman Lyle Berman, who himself has been playing poker for forty years. Lyle is a member of the Poker Hall of Fame and has 3 gold WSOP bracelets.
Black Ridge Chairman, Ken DeCubellis, said that the WPT poker series will remain unchanged, but the company itself will change the focus on eSports. His team aims to monetize views in eSports sphere. At the moment, the number of poker players is estimated around 40 000 000 people worldwide. For comparison, in eSports, this figure is around 2 billion of which 400 000 000 play computer games on a regular basis. No changes are planned in the poker series itself, and you can see it for yourself on January 18 in Sochi on the start of WPT Russia series.
